The online job search abyss
We’ve previously discussed the difficulties of searching for jobs online. While there are a plethora of websites designed to provide opportunities, the sheer volume of what is offered can be overwhelming.
Back in the day, you would just flip through the classifieds section of your local paper and would find job listings in one condensed spot. While the game has since changed, that is still an option but is only a drop in the bucket.
Where do I start?
From a personal standpoint, when I’m searching for jobs online I am generally looking for something having to do with writing. The up and down side of that is that there is so much to sift through with such a broad topic, it can be difficult to narrow down the search.
After trying various job search engines, I decided to give Job Pal a try. Operated through Facebook, Job Pal is an interactive job searching tool that is used through messenger.
How Job Pal works
To begin utilization, you simply “like” the Facebook page and indicate through the message tool that you are ready to get started. Job Pal first sends a message saying, “Hi! Great to meet you! I can help you find your next job. Ready?” You then respond to begin interaction.
Job Pal then goes on to ask which city you will be searching in. After giving a response, you will be asked what type of job you are looking for.
The search begins
“Ok! I’m looking for the hottest & most suitable jobs for you…” said Job Pal after I typed in “writer.” The results were not as copious as I’d hoped.
A graphic appears that you can scroll through with a list of job openings.
This “writer” search generated only five job postings from two different companies.
With a little more time…
It was about then when the “no duh” light when off in my head as I realized that Job Pal operates somewhat like a recruiter, where companies have to sign up with Job Pal in order for their listings to be posted.
Being that Job Pal is fairly new, it makes sense that not many companies have had a chance to sign up for it. Assuming that more companies become affiliated with the tool, this has a chance of being beneficial for job seekers, as it is condensed much like the good old classifieds section.
