Pinterest: A place for ideas
When Pinterest first rolled around, it was this endless sea of ideas. With everything from crafts to recipes, there was a little something for everyone.
With the aforementioned crafts and recipes, it was easy for users to create something based on what the website was providing. Recipes would be uploaded with the photo of the finished dish, making it possible for pinners to make it in their own kitchen.
The road that leads to nowhere
The issue with Pinterest, however, was that there were many pins that led to nowhere. You’d be scrolling through, find an item of clothing or an accessory that you just had to have, but there would be no information on where to obtain it.
This prompted the Keyser Soze of Pinterest thoughts, “One of the greatest tricks the devil ever pulled, was creating a pin that leads to nowhere.” Okay, maybe that’s a bit dramatic, but the sentiment is true.
How do I pin directly to my closet?
I have boards upon boards of photos that will never factor into my life other than in the form of a pinned inspiration. It has now come to my attention that I am not the only one who feels this way, as Pinterest has made an attempt to rectify this issue.
It was only a matter of time before Pinterest became it’s own place of commerce. The website now has a way for its users to shop straight from the site.
Buyable Pins through the site
Last summer, Pinterest launched “Buyable Pins” that were only accessible through mobile or tablet apps. Now, they have upped their game by making the pins accessible through the desktop site.
This was done in the hopes that users will buy straight through Pinterest rather than through the retailer. The number of items currently available for purchase through Pinterest has recently risen over ten million.
Visual search
Like many other competitor sites, Pinterest has implemented a shopping cart feature so that users can purchase a collection of items in one checkout. But, in keeping with the spirit of Pinterest-inspiration, there is a feature that sets this shopping experience apart from the others.
There is a visual search option available for users looking to be visually inspired if they are not searching for something specific. This proves that, even if Pinterest is trying to keep up with the Jones’ of their competitors, their central vision is still available.
