Coworking wasn’t even a thing a few years ago. But with more and more workplaces moving away from traditional office hours and structures, there has been a demand for something between the home office and the coffee shop.

My theory on co-working is that it is all about three things: strong wifi, strong coffee, and a great community. After I joined my first coworking space and found a group of misfit toys that felt like family, I wrote an article calling these spaces “The New Urban Tribes.”

“It’s people cooking lunch together and spontaneously collaborating on work and passion projects. It’s developer jobs written on the whiteboards, a kickball team and a kitchen with five different ways to make coffee. It’s hacking classes in the evening and yoga in the mornings.”

Since then Austin has seen a surge of co-working spaces, each targeting a slightly different kind of remote worker. I’ve broken the best of the best in town here, according to information available on their websites and my own (admittedly biased) opinion. I am one of the founding members of the first on the list:

The Comeback

This homey, east-side office is a great deal for start ups and people wanting to network and work on Austin’s eclectic east side.

Founded primarily by local female entrepreneurs, the comeback is all about helping your dream come true.

They host development classes, writing workshops and hacking events. Also there is a yeti.
